The Explorer K2 Kayak is really good and perfect for calm lakes! It feels stable, easy to handle, and a lot of fun. I gave it 4 stars only because deflating it was a little tricky — it would be nice if it came with something to make that part easier. Also, the back seat could use a little more space for comfort. But overall, I do highly recommend it.

    **2020 v 2025**
Bought one of these March 2020. Ordered a second on May 2025. The dated info printed on the inside of the kayaks is 2019 (for our 2020 purchase) and 2022 ( for our 2025 purchase). But I couldn't visually see a difference between the two.

    **Inflating**
The manual pump is nice but I would definitely bring an electric if possible. I'm 5 feet tall and I was hunched over trying to stand and pump. It takes a short while...but today we were rolling out our gear as a father son rolled their canoe into the launch and by the time we had finally put in, they were heading back to launch when we started our journey (so 20+ minutes with three capable hands and kid wrangling). Considering all that, an electric pump is with shaving off some time, imo.

    **Set up**
Very intuitive. You do it once and you'll remember the next time. Very simple and easy.

    **Maneuvering & Balance**
We didn't put the skegs on and it made maneuvering tougher than it needed to be. I've seen other people have drilled holes and attached strings so it doesn't get lost. We will definitely try that next time.

It felt a little unstable with my teen son in back. Not sure why we felt so tippy - he could have been overzealous or maybe that little fin really does help out. But no tip overs yet. Even my husband with our 6 year old in front trying to dangle his feet over the edge and trying to grab algae didn't tip over.

    **Fit**
It's more than roomy enough for me (5' 120 lbs) and my 6 year old. I was able to stretch my legs out completely. My husband (6'1" 220lbs) said he needs to figure out a better way to sit. He's not very flexible and he said his feet fell asleep. My teen son (5'10" 140lbs) didn't complain. He's pretty athletic and flexible so he can manage to rearrange himself in different ways. But I think my teen son and husband would be most comfortable riding solo. This two person kayak would be perfect for one person and their gear. For our family of four: I paired up with my teen son; my kindergartner went with daddy. For what it is worth, my husband and teen son have shared one kayak before but they didn't bring any gear.

    **Seats**
Again, my 6 year old and I were fine. We sat up straight. I definitely felt like my seat back could have been firmer and I had to pull the straps as tight as possible. My husband said he wasn't totally comfortable and he said it looked like my teen son was fully reclined the whole time. Tbh, I am not sure if my teen was being silly or lazy or if it was his preference, but he didn't make much effort to adjust and he didn't complain.

    **Patch Kit**
We ended up puncturing our new kayak (2025) when we finished today. My husband dragged it against the dock where inexplicably there were three massive screws sticking pointy side out. We cleaned the area and placed the provided patch. The patches look a little meh. Will update with how it holds...but we're already planning on ordering a better patch kit. The ones provided are a nice extra but they're very basic.

    **Storage**
We were able to deflate and place all the items back into the bag. Folding was fine - basic attentiveness was all it took. Some items with storage bags are impossible to shove back into their bags after use. But this was easy enough to get back into the bags. The bags themselves feel a bit flimsy but our first has lasted 5+ years. We'll continue to store it mindfully and hope it holds up.

    **Overall**
We found we got our money's worth for our first purchase (2020). I was annoyed to see the price jump in 2025 but I can see the value even at this price point (currently $150). We'll definitely get our money's worth. While we'd absolutely prefer the hard kayaks, the inflatable ones are just easier to store and transport so they're the ones that make sense for our family of 4 right now.

THE GOOD: Recently moved to FL and bough this to explore all of the FW springs. It's pretty amazing! We love that its so easy to store and travel with, living in a tiny apt we don't have room for standard kayaks and it's awesome that it just fits in the top of the closet and also easily with a large cooler the back of our CRV. The oars are great and break down really easily. It inflates quick with the manual pump. We do have an automatic air pump that came with our air matress that we use to blow it up 95% (car cigarette lighter plug) and then manually pump to 100% full. Takes maybe 5-7 min tops once you know the drill. I also carry a lot of expensive non waterproof camera equipment with me in a large case and there's enough room for it in the front but I do wish it was a little more spacious. We keep a gallon of water and a dry bag with snacks and first aid kit in the back. Also our mask/snorkel/fins. It's AMAZING for the price (we paid $88) and it has already paid for itself several times over. Our friends have an inflatable from Costco that has a fabric/kevlar material over the vinyl and I do wish these had that as well since we got a hole in the side in the first month. The patches it comes with are USELESS, I feel like they should come with glue but don't. The other "intex inflatable" patches I bought also are useless lol. I had a hard time finding the right patch online but then found the HDX vinyl repair kit from Home Depot and it worked great! Patched it (not inflated) and let sit for 24 hours. Inflated it and let it sit for for 48 hours to see if it held. Just water tested it last weekend for a 3 hour kayak and held no problem at all. Actually the patch in that specific kit is clear so you can really see if it worked on the hole or not - I prefer this over the colored patches. We also bought some Flexi tape to keep in our dry bag with first aid kit for on the go punctures (hopefully we don't have any more lol). It's also easy to get off and on the kayak when in the water maybe more so than a standard as the sides give a little and feels way less "tippy". Since it does sit pretty low, my hubs in the back can can even dawn a mask and dip just his face in the water staying dry. I love the fact that we don't have to worry about places being sold out of kayaks. We always have the option to rent a standard if we really wanted to but so far only have once when we inflated and found the hole. If you launch from a dock you can actually stay 100% dry in this which I find kind of surprising. All in all a great buy for the price!!

NOT SO GOOD: Super minor things, the fin is long so we do get caught up once in a while but we're often in super shallow springs. It does seem to get holes somewhat easily (on our 3rd use) but also easy to repair. Not sure about a hole on a seam situation. You do sit pretty low.... this is not a dealbreaker but hubs is 6'0" and I am 5'4" and our hands do rub on the sides when paddling, a little bothersome. We have since started putting out wetsuits folded up under us for a little extra boost and that helps. You can definitely tell the difference between the seat height in this vs a standard and the backs aren't quite as solid as a standard kayak but it does the job The wind does push you around a bit more than a standard kayak since the nose is angled more upwards, its still stable in the rocking/tipping sense but you do not cut the water as well as a standard kayak that's for sure. For all of the convenience in how compact it is and the freedom to inflate and launch anywhere, makes up for all of these minor issues. Haven't taken it on the ocean or any rough water yet so can't comment on that. I think the springs are prettier anyway LOL!

We are experienced Kayakers who have other hard sit on top and sit in kayaks. This was our first inflatable. For the price of admission, ours turned out to be a great purchase. We use it on vacation, so that we don’t have to carry our expensive kayaks on our vehicle for hundreds or thousands of miles, and worry about them getting stolen when we camp. We have used our Intex Explorer on the ocean inlet canals in Murrel’s Inlet, SC and it works great for that. Smooth water with some current. Our limit is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours before we feel cramped and need to take a break by getting out of the yak. I am 6’ and wife is 5’ 8”. This kayak is a little short for two people our sizes, but anything significantly longer is a lot more money so we make due. The Explorer K2 tracks well using the included skeg and when good paddling technique is used. When we paddle hard and fast in unison, it tracks very straight and is speedy enough. When letting off and ceasing all paddling, it will drift and the rear will start to swing out some. Not a big deal. The materials used seem durable enough for the price point. The only thing we really would like changed would be the inflation valves on the floor and on the front and rear bow and stern covers leave a little to be desired. They are the cheap little clear flip out valves like are used on inflatable pool toys. The other valves to inflate the sides the are the nice kind of valves that don’t let air escape when you pull the air pump out after inflating. Again, for the price point we figure they have to cut corners somewhere, and these are the areas they did. But all in all this is an amazing value for the money. We are done with set up and inflation using the included pump within 10-12 minutes, and deflation is even quicker. If we find we start using the Intex more and more, we may upgrade at some point to a longer (like 12-13 ft) inflatable kayak. If Intex made one, we’d buy it today. So if you want the convenience of a kayak you can take with you anywhere (comes with it’s own bag), and you want in for low cost, the Explorer K2 is a good way to go!
